juicing...

If you follow me on instagram, then you are fully aware [probably more than you want] that I started juicing a few weeks ago after watching the documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". [you can watch it there or on Hulu.]
Lets just say that after watching the documentary, I ordered a juicer the next morning. It was so inspirational, so motivating, but even more it was such an ah ha moment that I had that I just couldn't shake.
so I ordered a Breville juicer [its' amazing btw.], and took to the fridge,
to clear everything out to make room my produce for the next two weeks.

You can find thousands of recipes online for juicing.
But below I will give you me absolute favorites and go-to recipes!

I try and add as many greens/veggies as possible.
But always add a green apple...always.
Oranges are great as well to get a sweeter juice.
some say that cucumber is refreshing...I actually think it's disgusting and it makes me nauseous, so i mask it in every [healthy] way possible.

Sweet potatoes produce alot of juice without alot of taste, which is awesome.

Kale doesn't produce a ton of juice, either does spinach,
but you can add a lot of each and get your greens!

[I always pour my juice over ice!]

FRUITY GREEN GOODNESS

- 2 pear
- 2 green apple
- 1 kiwi

Wash produce. Cut up and Juice!

MORNING SUNRISE

- 4 carrots
- 1 sweet potato
- 2 oranges
- 1 green apple

Wash produce. Peel orange. Cut up fruit. Juice!

MEAN GREEN [used in the documentary]

- 1 cucumber
- 4 celery stalks
- 2 green apples
- 6-8 kale leaves
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tbsp ginger

Wash produce. Peel lemon. Cut up fruit and Juice!

One of the best parts, Hudson loved the juice as well... his diapers did not [it totally flushes the kid out, every single time, as it should]...but he still loves it!

A lot of people have asked about the financial part of things as well. After talking this over with my husband, he decided to not participate so I was on my own.
So when I went to the store with recipes in hand and shopped for an 8-10 day juice.
All juice. All meals [5]. 8-10 days. [including as much water as you want]
Ambitious but I was ready to do it!
Everything together cost me about $115 for those days.

the first day was horrible. I took a 3 hour nap with Hudson in the afternoon, had the worst headache of my life, and ended up eating a string cheese before bed to make it through. But the days following were a breeze, to be quite honest. the juice is filling. I had so much energy. I felt amazing.
I made it 8 whole days on just juice.

I knew I couldn't juice forever, so now insteading of juicing for every meal, I juice for breakfast, and juice a smaller amount for an afternoon snack.

I can't believe it took me this long to start something like this.
If you've ever wanted to start a juice, watch the documentary and make up your mind!

  1. My 21-month old LOVES a recipe with kale, beets, mango, apple, carrot and spirulina. I can't even sip it without gagging, but he LOVES it. Of course, my juicer broke months ago so now I just order one for him at Jamba Juice a few times a month. I need to get a juicer back in action and keep up. I know I wouldn't make it through a cleanse (kudos to you!), but doing it here and there per day like you are now is awesome!

  3. Ha I have a Breville to, although my model is a bit different. It's actually the same one Joe used in Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I love that thing! I use to hate veggies and now I just juice my veggies and go on with my day. The longest I've ever gone was 5 days. Day three was the hardest, but it got better after that.

Most importantly, my daughter loves it! Although I agree with you, her diaper does not. Those first few days I started giving her juice were down right frightening! Good luck with your journey. Your body will thank you for it later.
