called the po-po...

If you are looking for WIHUTW, it's not happening this week.
Mainly because of the events that happened yesterday!

Somebody called the po-po and that would be me.

If you follow me on facebook or twitter, you may have seen one of these...

"literally just sitting on the couch talking to a friend, when all of a sudden someone is trying to unlock our front door...[no knock or anything] well he succeeded & walked right into my house. Said he was scheduled to be here for some electric issues...um no! let's just say, this man was almost beat to death with a bat..."

"I just had a man,a complete stranger, open my front door and walk in my house...lets just say, he almost got his head beaten in with a bat."

And it all really happened.

As a friend and I were sitting in the front room [right by the front door], having a little morning play date, there was a fidget at the front door. At first I thought it was just the UPS guy putting a smaller package in between the screen and the door, but when it continued and I could see the door knob moving, I knew it wasn't the UPS man. As I stood there trying to figure out what the heck to do...the knob turned, and there stood a complete stranger...a man. I grabbed the door, shut it as best as I could, and freaked out...like mama bear style, blood shot eyes, steam coming out of my ears[I'm sure]...freaked out.

"Excuse me?!?!"
"What the hell are you doing in my house?"
"Get out of my house!"
"Don't you dare step another foot!"
"I don't know if there is another address like mine!"
"GET OUT!"

This just happens to be my [and probably every single women's] worst fear....especially with children in the house...and it just happened to be while the husband was out of town...in another state.
  awesome. not.
After play-date was over, I called our property management right away. You see, we are renting out our condo, which means, in this case, it is managed by a property management company. In order to get a key, or a copy of a key, it must go through the management company, and then through me to make an appointment twenty-four hours in advance.
Clearly. this didn't happen.
I called and called and called and called and called...and left a message on a different voice mail machine every single time.
I even loaded up Hudson and drove to the management company...and it just happened to be their lunch hour...for an hour and a half. WWWWWHHHAAAAAATTTTT?!
4 hours passed and still not a word from anyone.
So who is the next person to call.... [after a push from my mom.]
somebody called the po-po.
The non-emergency kind, but still the po-po.
They took a statement over the phone.
Called the management company...and nothing.
So my bff over at the police station hopped into his car and drove down there...maybe to make a LARGE statement. He wasn't very happy, i wasn't very happy, and you know what happens when you make people mad...things get done, dangit.
It's not so much of a company coming to the door [it happens alot actually because we are in confusing condo addresses], but it's the fact that he didn't knock [super professional right] and had a key to my house.

Long[er] story short...the lock smith was at my door within 20 min [escorted by my bff in blue ], locks were changed, property management got their act together within minutes [well, for now.]... but still no word on the stranger that came through my door. The company doesn't seem to check out and nobody seems to know who they are. I looked them up online and got a phone number that is listed, nobody answers and their voicemail box just happens to be full....Awesome. Today, property management and the police will be making a visit to the location listed online. We will see how that goes. Another story short...there is a bat by my bedroom door and front door, wasp spray by my bed, and my bff's number on speed dial.

I try not to think about what would have happened if I wouldn't have been in the front room...actually I will tell you, you know that bat that is sitting in my bedroom? Yeah, I can guarantee you, that he would have probably been hit with that more than a dozen times...

This mama came out in full force today.
Full force I tell you.
Thankfully we are all safe and sound.

I don't intend on writing this post to freak any of you out.
But if it does one thing...lock your doors, at all times.
You can never be too prepared and too protective of your home and family!

  1. ahhh! That is terribly scary! Coming from a property management background, that is something that should NOT have happened. Hopefully for your emotions sake it was just a mix up and not some random person breaking in! But, best to call the police just in case! I called the police on my friends neighbors once, cuz i thought someone was breaking in. SWARM of cops came. It was pretty impressive. Good to know your police force is hard at work too!

  6. OMG! That's so scary! We don't have children (yet, hopefully) but when B travels out of state I'm always edgy. The closest thing that happened to me was someone prank-ringing my doorbell. I don't blame you for getting all Mama Bear on the trespasser. I'm happy you acted well on your feet! And kuddos to you for calling the popo! Unbelievable how irresponsible that management office is!

  7. This is absolutely my worst fear. I am a compulsive lock checker and I refuse to open the door to anyone when my husband isn't home. This sent chills up and down my spine.

  8. I would have freaked out just like you. However maybe you should trade the bat in for something shiny...and heavier! ;)

  17. I can not even believe that! It is so insane to have happened. I can't believe the property management company wasn't more on top of it, either! I am glad that you are okay and hopefully the police can get some resolution to this so this man doesn't keep just walking into people houses!

  18. I am so sorry that happened to you!!! That is so scary!! Our doors/windows are always locked and we even have a chain on the front and back door so even if someone manages to open the door they are going to have a hell of a time breaking the chains to get all the way through. {The chains are mainly for keeping my boys inside now that they know how to escape out the doors but hey it's also extra security}

  19. That is the craziest story!!
Sounds like you handled it like a pro though, I would have freaked!
Then again it's amazing to see how our "maternal insticts" kick into gear when needed ;) You go girl.

  24. oh my word! That's my worst fear too. We are super careful about that sort of stuff at my work (we do property mgmt). In fact, if a unit is occupied, we require a member of our staff to go out with vendors. I'm really glad that things are getting taken care of though, and that you're all safe and sound.
